At the 2025 New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW), BENZAIT CEO and Founder Ralph Whalen joined a panel of healthcare and technology leaders to explore the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical care. The panel, titled “From Lab to Clinic: AI’s Role in Revolutionizing Healthcare,” focused on real-world AI adoption and the shift from research to bedside application.
Empowering Clinicians with Smart, Human-Centered AI
BENZAIT is not building tools to replace clinicians—it’s building tools that amplify their impact. Whalen highlighted the company’s recent innovations, including a chart summarization tool that automatically adapts patient information for each provider’s specialty. The goal? Make clinicians’ time more valuable and reduce burnout by reclaiming even five minutes per patient.
“AI allows us to automate the work people don’t want to do—like documentation or billing—so they can focus on care,” said Whalen.
A Practical and Ethical Approach to AI Integration
The discussion emphasized the importance of integrating AI directly into clinical workflows. Whalen warned against developing AI solutions in silos: “You could build the best AI product in the world, and it’ll go nowhere if it doesn’t fit into a clinician’s workflow.”
Data privacy, transparency, and trust were also central to the conversation, with panelists advocating for clear communication with patients as AI becomes more visible in care delivery.
Tackling Healthcare Bottlenecks with AI
From ambient documentation to prior authorizations and diagnostic support, AI is already easing administrative burdens. Whalen noted that about 70% of FDA-cleared AI tools are in imaging, often outperforming average diagnostic accuracy.
“Wherever the rate limiter is human time, that’s where AI is most impactful,” Whalen said.
The Takeaway: AI That Works With Providers
BENZAIT’s approach stands out by rooting AI innovation in real clinical environments and centering on collaboration with providers. The company continues to lead the way in developing AI solutions that are practical, ethical, and provider-first.
